Yesterday morning, I received a direct message at 00.00am on 9th January which said ‘FYI this profile on twitter bit.ly/VCLeeQ is spreading nasty blogs around about you’.
I immediately thanked the sender and clicked in the link, but it had been removed. The link was to bitly.com (which is a url shortening service) so I immediately sent them an email to see if I could get a copy of the removed page, but as they didn’t host any pages, it was simply a link to another page (probably a hackers) and they told me that my account had been hacked and to simply reset my password; which I did.
So I assumed that everything was ticketyboo after that, but no. First thing this morning I discovered that apparently I had sent numerous direct messages to my followers, which duplicated the message I had initially received.
I reset my password again this afternoon, so hopefully, that should be an end to it, but if you do get a similar message, the best advice seems to be, reset your password and don’t give out your password to any third party sites.
I have to say that my account is linked to Facebook, Goodreads, JustUnfollow, etc, but none of them asked for the password, so I am at a loss to say how it happened.
To anyone who did receive a private message purporting to be from me, I can only apologise.
Watch out for the following messages.
Did you see this pic of you? lol bit.ly/YCcPju ..
